Afrikaans Home Language in Grade 4 is taught to learners for whom Afrikaans is their primary home language. The CAPS curriculum covers four integrated skills: listening and speaking, reading and viewing, writing and presenting, and language structures and conventions. By the end of Grade 4, learners are expected to read Afrikaans texts independently, write structured paragraphs, and demonstrate a solid understanding of Afrikaans grammar. The content and skills mirror those of English HL but are applied within the Afrikaans language.

Lees die vrae voor die gedeelte. In begripstoetse maak dit dit baie makliker om die antwoord vinnig te vind. Onderstreep sleutelwoorde in elke vraag voordat jy begin lees.
Gebruik die merktoedeling as riglyn. A question worth (2) needs two separate points. 'n Vraag wat (1) werd is, benodig slegs een duidelike antwoord. Skryf nooit 'n enkele woord vir 'n 2-merkervraag nie.
Haal altyd aan uit die teks wanneer jy bewys gee. Skryf: 'Die teks sê …' om die eksaminator presies te wys waar jy jou bewys gevind het.
Leer jou woordsoorte deur jou eie voorbeelde te maak. Skryf jou eie sinne met naamwoorde, werkwoorde en byvoeglike naamwoorde uit jou alledaagse lewe.
Kontroleer jou tye nadat jy geskryf het. Een van die mees algemene foute in Graad 4-skryfwerk is om tussen verlede en teenwoordige tyd te wissel. Gaan terug en kontroleer elke werkwoord.
Bou woordeskat deur 'n woordeboek te hou. Elke keer as jy 'n woord lees wat jy nie ken nie, skryf dit neer met sy betekenis en gebruik dit in 'n sin.
