Build vocabulary every day. Five words daily = 800+ new words by end of Grade 8.
Formal letter format must be memorised. Address, date, salutation, body, closing. Learn it and never lose those format marks.
Figurative language: name, quote, explain. Never just say 'there is a simile'. Quote it, name it, explain the effect on the reader.
Use the passive voice to vary your writing. 'The letter was written by John' adds variety. Examiners reward sentence variety.
Argumentative writing needs a clear thesis. Your first paragraph must state your position clearly. Everything else supports it.
